What Makes This a Photo of the Day? The effect of the circle of sparks is nicely done here and makes for a fun picture. I especially like the figure in the center, making it all happen. —Alexa Keefe, Photo of the Day editor

BBC, Handel's Water Music - Recreating a Royal Spectacular, Peter Ackroyd

Last night i came across a beautiful documentary from BBC channel. It was about the story behind the great George Frideric Haendel's "Water Music" on the Thames river and how the biographer Peter Ackroyd and a team of historical experts try to revive that story. G.F.Haendel is one of my favorites classical composers. I happily found the documentary on youtube in 4 parts and i want to share it with all the classical-baroque-victorian music fans like me. Enjoy
BBC Handel's Water Music - Recreating a Royal Spectacular, documentary by the BBC in 2009, Directors: Andrew Manze, English Concert & narrated by Peter Ackroyd.

Playlist: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL99C8C3D866B3D179

The renowned London biographer Peter Ackroyd narrates the ambitious attempt of a team of historical experts to discover the remarkable story behind the 1717 premiere of Handel's Water Music on the Thames. The result is the second-ever performance on the river, filmed in costume on a regal-style period barge against the backdrop of the present-day Thames from Whitehall to Chelsea.

This is the sort of documentary the BBC does so very well: to take an idea with some historical or scientific interest, invite some experts to talk about it, skate quickly over any unknowns, shoot good-looking footage of a re-creation exercise, and string it all together. The recipe produces excellent, if rather predictable, edutainment for a general audience.
